New Year New Start?
(2nd January | 15:35)
Research suggests that Christmas is the time of year when many couples decide to divorce. A survey carried out by the Divorce Online website appears to confirm that Christmas does have an impact on the decision to divorce. Of the 500 people who responded to the survey, 57.3% said that it did have an effect, 29.5% said it did not and the remainder were undecided.
It would also appear that relationships in which there are existing problems are more likely to collapse during the Christmas break. Many couples then begin divorce proceedings in the period between January and March.
For many families, Christmas is a stressful time and this is particularly true for the children in these families. It may be that they are part of a family where the relationship between their parents is in the process of breaking down or it may be that this Christmas has been the first one since their parents separated.
What do you think? Does the time of year have an impact on relationships or not?
