Mock Tribunal Day

Who should attend?

Managers and HR professionals with responsibility for managing staff, directors or board members who may hear appeals, anyone who may end up being a witness in an employment tribunal case.

Objectives:

At the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand how Tribunals approach cases
  • Participate in the preparation of a case and put it in to practice
  • Cross examine witnesses and see how this might affect the outcome of a tribunal case
  • Understand the tribunal's thought processes in reaching their decision
  • Vote on the decision having seen and heard the evidence

Content summary:

  • Choose from various mock tribunal workshops including:
  • Sexual harassment and gross misconduct
  • Age discrimination, TUPE and breach of contract
  • Stress and depression
  • Read the papers and witness evidence in advance
  • Delegates can take on role of advocate, tribunal members or witnesses
  • Break out/discussion groups on legal issues with delegates devising cross examination questions
  • Cross examination of witnesses
  • Voting on the outcome
  • Discussion of the tribunal's verdict and the reasons for it

Method of training:

A combination of consideration of background papers prior to mock tribunal day, observation of mock tribunal in progress, opportunity to participate as witnesses, advocates or tribunal members, breakout/discussion groups focusing on topics of your choice, voting on the tribunal's decision, question and answer/discussion groups following decision.

Length of course:

Full day.
