Heather Mills flawed self defence ‘weakened case’
Published: 18th March 2008
Tina Dunn, family law partner at Mace and Jones law firm offers the following comment on the McCartney Mills settlement.
"The court has highlighted the fact that the McCartney's was a short marriage. The £23.4 million settlement is considerably less than the figures that have been predicted over recent months. Even more so, if you consider that the settlement figure includes £7.8 million of Heather's own existing assets. That said, the Judge's disclosure that Sir Paul McCartney's assets stand at £400 million will surprise many who placed the figure at £800 million. Based on this fact alone, the settlement was always going to be lower.
I believe this ruling will set a precedent for future rulings. However, the low settlement will certainly not have been helped by Heather's own representation and her moves to appeal will be motivated by a desire to silence any further details being made public."
